HARBOURSIDE HAIKU by Alan Summers

Pero’s Bridge -
the dock’s ice gathers
new year resolutions

waterbus ferries -
someone at the tiller
nods at John Cabot

bright breeze
a sighted person fingers
the statue’s eyes

falling down
onto rush hour traffic
seagull feathers

floating harbour
a sunfall’s last glint over
wind dimpled water

autumn twilight ...
swan shapes separate
for the lone boatman

  1. These haiku are taken from a larger collection of called 'Bristol Docklands - a haiku sequence' in the book 'City: Bristol Today in Pictures and Words' (Paralalia, 2004).
